Jhocelyn Pra: Consistency, Faith, and the Courage to Believe in Being Different
To truly understand Jhocelyn Pra's journey, one must look beyond the campaigns in Mexico City or her casting calls in one of Latin America's most competitive markets. In an industry that frequently intimidates or pigeonholes talent, the Salvadoran model represents a more honest truth: that of someone who started with genuine doubts, without conventional resources, yet with the determination and faith required never to take a step back.
For years, the idea of modeling seemed completely foreign. As consistently the tallest person in her classes, the perception of her own height became a personal barrier that prevented her from picturing herself in the industry.
"I felt deeply insecure about my body because I had always been the tallest girl in class, which is why I never even considered becoming a model," Jhocelyn reflects. "I watched shows like America's Next Top Model, but my insecurity kept me from seeing beyond that."
The turning point didn't come from vanity, but through the eyes of someone close who saw in her what she couldn't yet see in herself.
The First Casting: Borrowed Platforms and Breaking Through Doubt
It was her best friend, Raúl, who broke the inertia by encouraging her to join him at an audition. Jhocelyn arrived at her first casting for Kaleidoscopio without specialized wardrobe or heels of her own; her mother lent her a pair of platform shoes, and that was how she showed up.
The very next day, the open call for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week El Salvador was announced. The stakes rose immediately: the audition required a swimsuit, forcing her to confront her deepest insecurities head-on.
"It was a real challenge because I felt so much insecurity about my body and whether it was even possible to get selected," she recalls of that day. "I didn't have a swimsuit for that casting, everything was completely new, and in my head I kept thinking: could this even happen? But when I walked in, René Barrera was there; he introduced me and made me feel welcome, even though I was terrified with nerves."
The result proved her journey was just beginning. While her friends were not selected on that occasion, Jhocelyn's name made the official roster.
"It was unbelievable; I couldn't believe it because my friends didn't make it and I did. I didn't know how to react; my mom was overjoyed."

Learning on the Ground and the International Leap with IZ Management
Far from resting on that initial milestone, Jhocelyn recognized that real growth required constant work. She began assisting university students with their photography projects, using every shoot as practice to grow comfortable in front of the lens and master her angles.
"After that, more opportunities started appearing. At first, I helped college students with their photography projects, and that helped me improve step by step. I kept applying to castings and realized there were countless opportunities out there; you just had to stay consistent and patient."
Over time, and with the backing of IZ Management, her horizons expanded far beyond El Salvador. Working alongside Izrael Chajón, the prospect of signing with Prototyp3 agency in Mexico City became reality.
"It was a possibility that existed in my mind, but the question was always there: is it really possible for someone like me?", she acknowledges. "Thanks to Izrael Chajón for believing in me from the very start and supporting me through IZ Management."

The Reality in Mexico: Daily Castings and Major Brands
Arriving in Mexico City meant stepping into an expansive, rigorous, and fast-paced market. Rather than feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of competition, Jhocelyn focused on daily persistence and trusting her preparation.
"When I arrived in Mexico City, I began attending castings on a daily basis," she explains. "The market is immense, but with God's help and unwavering consistency, I booked campaigns for El Palacio de Hierro and commercial projects with KFC. We are continuing to work towards even bigger milestones."
Even with seasoned experience and appearances for renowned brands, the feeling of booking each job carries the exact same emotional weight as when she first began: "It excites me immensely because every project is a challenge, and it shows me that I am capable of achieving it."

The Certainty of Being Different
Looking back at 2018, when she was about to step through the door of her first casting in borrowed heels and terrified of not belonging, Jhocelyn knows exactly what advice she would give her younger self: "Never stop, even if they tell you that you don't have what it takes to be a model."
For Jhocelyn, the fashion industry and life have taught her that true power lies in embracing one's unique identity rather than seeking outside validation. For any woman who currently questions her body or feels out of place among conventional beauty standards, her message is unmistakable:
"I would tell her not to pay attention to negative comments about her body. Look in the mirror and see how valuable and unique you are; God created you with a purpose just as you are. Don't be afraid to wear a swimsuit or high heels simply because you are different. Be brave and believe in yourself."
